International Nautical Competition was first organised at the Turkish Naval Academy between November 10-16, 1996. The participating countries were Turkey, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Germany, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Italy, Pakistan and Romania. The competitions were held in four categories, namely: swimming, sailing, knotting and line throwing.
SAILING COMPETITION
One participant from each team ran with “LASER” class boats. Three races were held in 60 minutes according to IYRU S.1 regulations.

SWIMMING COMPETITION
Four Sportsmen from each team participated in the swimming competition held in four categories, namely: 200m medley, 100 m freestyle, 100 m breaststroke and 4x100 m freestyle relay.

Two participants from each team competed in
- Line throwing (from 25 m) and
- Knotting.
