| BASIC NAVAL TRAINING |
Primary
objectives of basic naval training are to enable the cadets to adopt
seamanship as their own lifestyle, apply the theoretical knowledge
acquired in classroom activities to real conditions and perform
seamen, petty officer and officer duties on board. Applied training
during an academic year is performed on:
- Patrol boats
- School ships
- Ship-handling simulator.

Each
cadet is required to have on-the-job training on board for a week
during both first and second semesters. First year cadets receive
basic naval training related to standard commands in navigation
and several drills on school ships as well as at the ship-handling
simulator. Second year cadets perform seamen recruit and junior
petty officer duties on board. Third year cadets serve as petty
officers on training boats and fourth year cadets assume officer
duties on board.

| TRAINING ON FLEET SHIPS |
The
primary objective of training on fleet ship is to introduce the
ships and weapon systems used in the Turkish Navy as well the living
quarters on board. Another objective of this programme is to enable
them to improve theoretical information through application in real
conditions for the purpose of enabling them to adapt themselves
to their first assignments on board.

This
training is performed on frigates, destroyers, fast patrol boats,
submarines, mine sweepers and layers in the end of each semester
for a week. Some aviation units, such as helicopters, join this
training.

| HANDS-ON TRAINING-1 |
This
training is given to those who have finished their first year training
successfully. It is performed during the summer quarter by visiting
several ports in the Black Sea, the Sea of Marmara, the Aegean and
East Mediterrian Sea. This training programme is performed to review
the seaman recruit tasks, apply the duties performed by junior petty
officers, enable the cadets to adapt themselves to the conditions
on board and introduce the national as well as international ports
in order to promote the culture and representation ability of the
cadets. This programme is applied for five weeks.

| HANDS-ON TRAINING-3 |
Third
year cadets undergo a four-week training program including Mediterrian,
East Atlantic and North European ports abroad. Enabling them to
learn petty officer duties on board. This training is given for
four weeks. During their training, cadets also visit historical
and touristical attractions of the host country and they participate
social activities.

| ON THE JOB TRAINING FOR THE SECOND YEAR CADETS |
Second
year cadets go through a five-week training for learning the principles
of cargo handling and law courses, which are not included in the
curriculum, but are requisites in order to be qualified in accordance
with IMO regulations. During that five-week period, navigation,
training on patrol and sailboats as well as visits to several naval
units are carried out after classes.

| SAILING AND ROWING TRAINING |
Seamanship
training is given to the midshipmen according to certain programme
on several yachts, sailing and rowing boats. First year students
use the rowing boats, second and third year students perform this
training on sailing boats and fourth year students navigate with
yachts. All those who undergo sailing and rowing training are supposed
to improve their seamanship skills as well as provide experience
to enable them to survive adverse sea and weather conditions. Moreover,
sailing and rowing teams participate in national and international
races.

| FLEET TRAINING |
Fourth
year cadets take a five-week fleet training on board ships assigned
by the fleet command during the summer training period upon completion
of the academic year. These ships are determined by considering
the divisions that the graduates are going to be assigned to. Fleet
training is provided in order to prepare the officer candidates
for duties on board before giving them full responsibility.
