MILITARY TRAINING

Those who are going to have education and training at the Turkish Naval Academy are provided mainly by two sources; namely, the Naval High School and civilian high schools. The graduates of the Naval High School and the graduates of civilian high schools who have succeeded several tests are supposed to undergo orientation training initially.

ORIENTATION TRAINING

On being admitted to the Academy, the cadets are supposed to undergo an orientation programme. The objective of this programme is to provide overall introduction to the Academy including information about military regulations, instructions, laws and traditions as well as survival at sea, proper use of life saving gear. In addition, the newcomers are trained to have the due physical fitness. Those who pass the test given in the end of the orientation programme are considered eligible to commence the academic programme.

      Those who have completed their orientation training successfully and become eligible to study at the Academy are also supposed to develop consciousness of discipline, prepare themselves for the duties that they are going to assume in the future, practice the academic knowledge gained during the academic term. For the purpose of realising this objective, applied naval training is performed in four categories at the Turkish Naval Academy. Namely;

  • FLEET TRAINING
  • HANDS-ON TRAINING-1
  • HANDS-ON TRAINING-3
  • BASIC NAVAL TRAINING
  • IC MILITARY TRAINING
  • LEADERSHIP TRAINING
  • APPLIED TRAINING FOR 2NDYEAR CADETS
  • SAILING AND ROWING TRAINING

The officer candidates who have completed their education at the Turkish Naval Academy successfully, perform fleet training on board several ships for the purpose of enabling them to have their orientation with their first assignments.

BASIC MILITARY TRAINING

For the purpose of promoting consciousness of discipline, basic military training is performed every week throughout an academic year, except the exam periods. Besides, students are given training concerning the weapons, the maintenance and use of which they are responsible for as the members of the Turkish Armed Forces. In this context, shooting exercises are carried out at the indoor and outdoor shooting ranges having international standards with pistols, machine guns and rifles.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING

In order to equip the cadets with leadership qualities enriched by military, moral, social and cultural values as well as improving their consciousness of responsibility leadership training is given great importance as an indispensable part of professional training.

In the cadet corps third and fourth year cadets are assigned leadership positions and given opportunities to build leadership skills. Parallel to the organisation of the Midshipmen Regiment senior students are commissioned to carry out military and administrative tasks in the cadet corps. Moreover, midshipmen honour board is another organisation that is aimed to graduate honourable and self-disciplined officers by implementing moral values among students.

As a part of the counselling scheme, second year students are held responsible for the guidance on personal basis to the first year students from their preparatory training to the end of their first year education. As a result, those who are admitted to the academy recently can adapt themselves to the new conditions more easily and effectively.

Furthermore, with the help of the tasks related to professional training, applied naval training, sports activities and extracurricular activities, commanding and leadership training is somehow enforced.
